The latest Book of… games from the brilliant Belatra Games is the beautifully created Cleo’s Book. A tomb-themed book that is different from all the other tomb-based video slots that we have seen so far. This 5reel -5line -3125payline is a monster that needs to be played to be understood. The additional reels make this game a little complicated to follow, but that’s a small price to pay for the potential of a staggering 50,000x maximum win.
The gameplay and animation are pretty good, though there are elements that don’t really capture the tomb theme in the way that others do. After a while, the 5reel -5line game gets a little old and you end up hankering for the good old 3reel -5line -10payline games.
The Free Spin Bonus round is different too, with 3 Scatters symbols (Books) bagging you just 7 free spins. Except for your bonus symbol, which works as a multiplier, all the other pictures are covered in the same coin logo. The only way to win is to achieve three stacks of the bonus symbol and no other gameplay is available, which makes bagging the Book symbols boring.
There is a Jackpot Round that is activated once you accumulate JP points. This bonus round starts at 1,000+ JP which is displayed on the top left of reel one. This progressive jackpot can be a generous payout, especially once you work your way through Mini Wheel up to the Mega Wheel of Fortune. Not easy to do and seriously difficult to hit the top prize.
This game offers a Bonus Buy which shortcuts your way to the Bonus round. This is an expensive way to get your free spins, and seldom pays out what it has cost you to buy free spins. Avoid using this option and play the game the way it was meant to be played, one spin at a time.
There is no safer gambling element other than the good old-fashioned manual click option. Which is good for me. There is no better way to control your game than a little willpower and an urge to play something else.
