Game Content

At first glance, the Book of the West looks like Swintt has produced a game that is as basic as basic gets. But look past the Spaghetti Western retro look to this game and you’ll see a modern game that has hidden graphics and clever game technology.

Retro look and hidden technology sound great, but therein lies the problem. Unless you are winning, The Book of the West is not an engaging game. It’s not engaging to look at or watch, the soundtrack is a little limited and the reels are basic looking.

Move past the retro, and the wins don’t exactly inspire your total devotion to continue playing. Until that is, you drop the three Book of… scatter symbols. The Free Spins bonus round is generous, but not to the point that it makes up for the fact that it takes ages to bag the Bonus spins.

In the modern-day world of graphics, technology, and total player entertainment, the Book of the West falls short. That said, the feel of this game is sort of cool. Wait, cool is the wrong word, I mean retro, and as we all know, retro equals cool. This is a game for those that love the old feel card game that has a low-impact style of gaming approach. Basically, it’s a marmite type of game, you’ll either like it or you won’t.

The safer gambling element is missing in this game, and the auto-play is limited. You can’t control your losses, but you can work out how much you could be done at the end of the run. It’s not a good way of keeping track of what you spend in a game.

Game Developer

Swintt Studios are still considered a “newish” player in the iGaming world of slot production but look at their catalogue of games and you’d think they have been around forever. Most of their games are basic enough to not be too taxing when it comes to playing. Everything they do they do well. The Book of the West is not their only Book of… Look at the equally clever yet totally opposite Book of the East.

Bonus Feature

Free Spins

The Book of the West is built around the classic scatter symbols that you’d normally get with any Book of… slot. Three triggers the Bonus spins. You are then taken to the actual Book of the West which reveals your Bonus symbol, and the spins begin. You start with 10 free spins.

Prizes in this game are generous enough, especially when playing the Bonus rounds. That said, it took us a long time to trigger the free spins through the Book scatter symbols.

Gamble Feature

There is no gamble feature in this game. The rest is just good old-fashioned reels and spins with OK graphics and an OK soundtrack.
