The Book of the East is a curious game that promises its players a deeper look into the Orient during a time of Warlords and Pirates. It doesn’t, but it does provide entertainment built around the optics of the Orient.
At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be much to this game, but that is down to the clever graphics and all-around quality feel you get with Swintt games. There is a depth to this game that makes you want to explore.
The soundtrack is more akin to Pirates of the Caribbean than it is to the oriental East. Even the backdrop to this game has a Jack Sparrow feel to it, even if the cards in the game have a more Japanese look. None of these are bad things, this is a good fun game to play, and one of the better games on offer from Swintt.
The safer gambling element is missing in this game, and the auto-play is limited. You can’t control your losses, but you can work out how much you could be done at the end of the run. It’s not a good way of keeping track of what you spend in a game.
Swintt Studios are still considered a “new” player in the iGaming world of slot production but look at their catalog of games and you’d think they have been around forever. Most of their games are basic enough to not be too taxing when it comes to playing. Everything they do well. The Book of the East is not their only Book of… Look at the equally clever yet less engaging and totally opposite Book of the West.
The Book of the East is built around the classic scatter symbols that you’d normally get with any Book of… slot. Three triggers the Bonus spins and you are then taken to the actual Book of the East which reveals your Bonus symbol, and the spins begin. You start with 10 free spins.
Prizes in this game are not the biggest we’ve come across, but they are generous, including the bonus rounds. That said, it took us a long time to trigger the free spins through the Book scatter symbols, but the wait was worth it.
Buy Bonus Feature
You can buy “Free” spins in this game under the Bonus Buy feature. If you opt for this, you start with 8 spins, which are all underwater. That’s a nice touch with the change of background and graphics. Normally I’d advise against paying for the Bonus buy, but in this case, it was worth the extra cost every time we tried it. Obviously, it is totally random, and might not be always worth it.
There is no gamble feature in this game, but there is an added “Booster” feature that offers a shot at a Bonus feature. It’s a one-time use feature that pays out once your bonus figure is shown three times. The rest is just good old-fashioned reels and spins with good graphics and an OK soundtrack.
