The Book of Alchemy from GameArt is a beautifully created colour feast for the eyes and an interesting take on the whole Book of… slots. GameArt has turned the Book of Alchemy on its head. Literally!
We say often enough that the games are all different, well this one is. Forget the average run-of-the-mill Book of… game, this is turned sideways with Locked Wilds and Stacked Wilds, and a Bonus Buy option which is all a little confusing. I played five games and won three goes, yet I couldn’t work out why. Does it matter why you win, I hear you ask. NO, but even though the theme is all about “forbidden knowledge”, I’d like to understand what is going on.
A handful of spins later, the mighty magician Remlin intervened and I dropped a mega win and it all made sense. This game runs from top to bottom with the reels running left to right rather than the usual left to right with the reels running top to bottom. All in the quest for good fun.
There is a safer gambling element in this game within the auto-play is section. Basically, you preselect your loss limit, and the game does the rest. Obviously, you can control your losses, but it’s not a perfect system, as it has a manual limit set to £€500.
NOTE: There is a turbo mode on this game, but unless you like watching your pot disappear in the blink of an eye, I’d avoid it, because the reel spin completes in less than a second.
GameArt is a master of the different. This game is a perfect example of just how they work. Pick a concept and completely turn it on its head without losing its original identity is nothing short of brilliant. Other games in their portfolio are just as good and defo worth a look.
The Book of Alchemy is built around the classic scatter symbols that you’d normally get with any Book of… slot, but all turned on its head. Three Book of… symbols trigger the Bonus spins and you are then taken to the actual Alchemists Book which reveals your Bonus symbol and the spins begin. You start with 10 free spins.
Prizes in this game are not massive, even when you go the full limit, but they are generous, including the bonus rounds. That said, it took us ages to trigger the free spins through the Book scatter symbols, but the wait was worth it.
There is a gamble feature in this game, but you must activate it first. Once you do, your wins will be offered the chance at a 50/50 Red or Black game. Winning doubles your pot, losing empties it. The rest is just good old-fashioned reels and spins with good graphics and an OK soundtrack.
Bonus Buy feature
There is a bonus buy feature in this game, which guarantees you the three scatter symbols. It doesn’t however guarantee that the buy-in price is covered in that win. Ours was, but it doesn’t always work out like that. Avoid this option if you can’t afford to risk it.
